European Green Crabs

European Green Crabs are an invasive species that were introduced to eastern North America in the 1800s through ship holds. Since the 1990s they have been found on the coast of British Columbia. They outcompete native crab species for food and territory, wreaking havoc in sensitive ecosystems such as eel grass meadows. Work to remove this invasive crab has been underway for decades.
