Nature & Conservation Photography

The term “nature” can be a loaded word for some. It stems from a colonial viewpoint of all wild things as being “other”, rather than connected to our human experiences. It also has been used to erase Indigenous presence on lands that have long held peoples before colonial settlement, a tactic used to obtain land and remove inhabitants. In my work as a “nature” or “wildlife” photographer, I am conscious to the fact that all natural phenomenons, including endangered species, ecosystems, invasive species and beyond, are intricately intertwined with humans and the stewards of the land that existed way before colonial times.

In my wildlife gallery, my goal is to showcase species as they are biologically; in their habitats, displaying unique behaviour, or interacting with similar or different species. In my conservation gallery my aim is to highlight holistic work that is occurring to understand and safeguard spaces and species as they are today, in the face of multitudes of cumulative issues.
